This blog is about transparency in everything…we discuss: books, family, business, and life’s journey in general. We wanted to share our experiences in balancing the 4 key areas of our life: Faith, Family, Finances, and Fitness. This blog serves as an opportunity to keep friends and family up to date while meeting new friends along the way.

Dominican Republic Trip GROWS into Long-Term Missions
I am including part of Katie's newsletter/announcement here. But the short story is that 7 days is GROWING into a YEAR of missionary service through Katie's willingness to listen to God's voice and take action on what God laid on her heart during the recent trip to the DR.
…and then I developed a “Jonah-syndrome” and went back to the chaos of work and comforts of life in Washington, D.C. I’m grateful that God puts us back in our place because as of April 17, I was spewed out of the belly of the whale, or in other words, RIFFED along with a large chunk of my former co-workers due to major budget cuts.
I’m so grateful that God is in control and He’s working through me, calling me to be His hands, feet, mouth and heart in all parts of the world. I’m ready to go, serve, teach, and to be used by Him!
If you are able, please consider supporting Katie. Prayers are always essential but consider financial support too. Katie will need to raise approximately $14,000 in the short-term just to embark on the journey and will need some additional support over the coming year. You can make a one time contribution or commit to monthly support. I assure it, it will not only be worth it but your contributions will have eternal value.

The Echo Within
I guess my review is: I struggled to get thru the book and I wouldn't recommend it.
Here is the book summary anyway--

·ways to sense the Holy in our pursuits, both in the pursuits themselves and within ourselves.
·how to fall into our vocation and chart a course toward it at the same time.
·how to love the work we do, and the process of doing it.
For anyone beginning a new career or sensing a needed change in their life or wrestling with a transition suddenly thrust upon them, Robert Benson delivers wisdom, humor, and heart in what he’s learned about listening for The Echo Within—and how it can help us discover our calling.

Mission Trip

We are very busy getting everything prepared for the trip. We have spent this week getting items together to take to the people we will be working with, things like sports equipment, medications, toys, and household items. The entire team is also finalizing plans to be away from work, school, and "normal" life for a week.
We would love to have prayer partners in each of you; please make it a priority to pray for us daily until we return.
God’s preparation before us and that we be used in the best way possible for His Glory
Travel Protection- Jan 18-24
The team members: Chad, Katie, Carol, Dana, David, Colin, and Myself
The missionaries we will be working with: Bud and Karen

The kids we are leaving here: Colin is going with us but Connor and Sybella will be staying home and for part of the time will be in different places…the kids have been away from us before but not also separated from each other at the same time.

Billy...How the story began

I think history helps us understand how people will react, what has made them who they are today, and how things could potentially unfold.

Victory!

Is God really hearing me? We were running an extremely tight budget.

But God is clear when he says in John 15:7 says, If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
It's just not on our time line!!!

More on P.E.A.C.E
Some quick thoughts and notes I wanted to capture:
1. You can only take someone as far as you have grown
2. What you measure you succeed in
3. We are called to build people...God builds the church
4. Spiritual growth is intentional and happens when we make commitments
My favorite comment from Rick was:
5. People set goals too low and try to accomplish them too soon...We need to set big goals and spend the rest of our lives chasing them.

Visioneering

My biggest take away is the following quote, “The most significant visions are not cast by great orators from stage. They are cast at the beside of our children…My most significant vision casting takes place on my knees with my face twelve inches away from the face of my children.”
WOW!
Some other quick highlights on this excellent book:
- Vision begins as a concern
- Don’t Get distracted
- Anyone can be a critic, everyone can come up with solutions because it does not take anything special to have a good idea, but it takes a visionary to generate results.
- Vision requires constant attention…one individual has to be willing to pick-up the vision and be the person who will deliver.
- Leaders who have success in vision casting share at least these three traits: A Peaceful Spirit, Healthy Relationships, and Character
- To be an effective leader you have to engage people’s heart and tie it to the vision.

PEACE

P - Promote Reconciliation
E - Equip Leaders
A - Assist the Poor
C - Care for the Sick
E - Educate the Next Generation
I will share more later but just wanted to encourage everyone to dream big dreams and trust God to fill in the gaps. I was totally in awe at the wisdom, experience, and teaching provided by these spiritual giants of our time. Mark is sought after by so many and is truly a transparent leader who men in leadership look to. Mark has a new book that will be coming out called "Wild Goose Chase". The more I hear him tell people about the book, the more excited I get...can't wait for the release later this year...

Overcoming Obstacles
Are you part of the problem or part of the solution in your community, work place, or home? This parable of the peasant and choses to do something about the problem is not only a great lesson but also is how we must be in life. Instead of complaining about the lack of results in life...be the 'rain maker'. Instead of being frustrated at what others are doing...be a 'doer'. Instead of railing about the selfish attitudes...be selfless. Don't be disappointed by the leadership of our country...be a leader in the community.
This week I was looking for someone to fix several challenges and obstacles that I am facing and realized I was that someone.
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by and simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear, but none did anything about getting the stone out of the way. Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road. After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. After the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was for the person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The peasant learned what many of us never understand. Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.

Time with Rick Warren

2. We grow as individuals only by our commitments
3. The shortest pencil is better than the longest memory
4. If you want God's Annointing you need to have: Integrity, Humility, and Generosity
5. People who compartmentalize thier lives lack integrity
Today he challenged leaders to improve themselves, keep the faith, and develop others. This is a man who God has placed in our country..."For such a time is this". I am thrilled to have spent an afternoon with him and share in the vision that God has given him and Kay.
